The Executive Director of CSP Visits ICCRI in JemberBy Admin
Jember, January 12, 2018—As one of duties for the new Executive Director of Cocoa Sustainability Partnership is visiting CSP members and key stakeholders in Indonesian sustainable cocoa sector. In the early of 2018, the Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Institute (ICCRI) is the first destination during the series of visits. During the meeting, it is participated by Dr. Ir. Misnawi as the Director of ICCRI, Dr. Agung Wahyu Susilo, SP., MP., as Head of Cocoa Research Bureau, and Dr. Ir. Soetanto Abdoellah, SU., as Chairman of Indonesian Cocoa Board (Dewan Kakao Indonesia/Dekaindo).
In this occasion, aside of introductory session, some important agendas are discussed, such as the coordination of activities in the upcoming months among CSP, ICCRI, and Dekaindo, and sharing the idea on how to accelerate cocoa sustainability in Indonesia and global level.
“One of significant events of CSP with its members in the near future is the launching of National Curriculum and Training Modules for Sustainable Cocoa Cultivation and Post-Harvest, and finalization process of National Working Competency Standard (Standar Kerja Kompetensi Nasional Indonesia /SKKNI) for Sustainable Cocoa, the follow-up plan of cocoa planting material workshop, and review activities of CSP road map”. As Wahyu Wibowo, Executive Director of CSP, explains to the audiences. “Regarding the important values of these activities, it is a great moment for CSP in establishing coordination with the stakeholders in Indonesian sustainable cocoa sector.”
In the similar occasion, ICCRI also delivers that at this moment, ICCRI has been created an innovative package of qualified and certified cocoa planting materials and farming mechanization in improving the cocoa productivity. “For more details on this package, it will be announced and launched shortly. The expectation is that the farmers can increase their income and livelihood by improving their cocoa production”, Dr. Ir. Misnawi said. Furthermore, ICCRI also expresses their intention to establish closer cooperation with CSP in the future, such as the plan of ICCRI in assigning its experts to the cocoa production center areas in order to provide technical assistance to the cocoa farmers. And this activity can be facilitated by CSP and its members.
In accordance with the development of National Curriculum and Training Modules for Sustainable Cocoa Cultivation and Post-Harvest, ICCRI puts interests to CSP and its members to be able in engaging coordination with the Directorate General of Estate Crops, Ministry of Agriculture, in empowering and strengthening the field extension staffs. This initiative can be also participated by the Regional Cocoa Forum in the cocoa production center areas in Indonesia.
Similarly, the Indonesia Cocoa Board (Dekaindo) also discusses about the common interest of all stakeholders in cocoa sector, i.e. interest of youth on cocoa business. “Hand in hand, CSP and cocoa stakeholders, including Dekaindo, must initiate the approaches in how to engage youths into sustainable cocoa sector and cocoa business. And it is the responsibilities for all stakeholders in cocoa sector”. Dr. Ir. Soetanto Abdoellah, SU., as the Chairman of Indonesian Cocoa Board (Dekaindo) expresses the interests of all stakeholders in Indonesian sustainable cocoa sector.
Dekaindo also invites CSP and its members to participate in meeting and discussion processes with the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) on January 22, 2018, in Jakarta. In the upcoming meeting, there are a lot of certain issues to be discussed by the stakeholders in cocoa sector and CSP with its members are invited to contribute their valuable ideas for the advance of Indonesian sustainability cocoa development and the efforts to improve the farmers’ income by increasing their cocoa productivities.
